Paul Giamatti Talks About The Rhino for Amazing Spider-Man 2

Amazing Spider-Man 2, Rhino, Paul Giamatti

It was announced back in January that actor Paul Giamatti would be playing the role of Aleksei Sytsevich aka “The Rhino” in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since then, photos of Giamatti on the set and in his Pre-CG suit, have surfaced online to give us an idea of what the character could potentially look like on the big screen, and it’s quite different from how the character looked in the original comics.

“In the comic books of old, he had this suit on that made him look like a rhinoceros, and it made him super strong,” he said in an interview with The Toronto Sun. “If there was a bank vault he would just run right through it. Butt through it with his head. And he was not very smart.”

Giamatti goes on to tease that his suit in the film will be slightly updated. “And I have a particular kind of suit, but I don’t think I’m supposed to talk about it. He’s a Russian mobster. Russians are always good villains. I have an ability to just destroy things. My accent is pretty hammy. I loved doing it. it seemed to me like an opportunity to be as over-the-top hammy as possible. It was really fun.”

He went on to tease that he plays “One of several bad guys in the movie.” Though the official announcements for the film have confirmed Rhino and Electro as antagonists, Giamatti talks as if there are more. Will we see The Green Goblin, or perhaps The Gentleman, on the big screen? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Swinging into theaters on May 2, 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, B.J. Novak and Sarah Gadon.

Marvel Moves Ant-Man’s Release Date Up Four Months

Ant Man, Hank Pym

A week or so ago we talked about  summer 2015, which is shaping up to be the blockbuster showdown of the ages.  It’s like all movies in production must be released in summer 2015.  Move ’em up to 2014; the year looks horrid.  At any rate, Disney moved Star Wars Episode VII to Christmas 2015 to give JJ Abrams and company more time and to let their other three massive blockbusters: Avengers Age of Ultron, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales and Pixar’s Inside Out a chance to breathe.

Today, Disney moved the release of Ant-Man, which was scheduled to begin the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Third Phase in November 2015 to July31, 2015 to compete against FOX‘s adaptation of the fantastic novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars.  Not to mention, it’s only two weeks after Superman vs. Batman.  So why would Marvel move the film into the fray?  I honestly can only think that they think it’s going to be that good and that it can ride the Avengers wave more smoothly into MCU Phase 3 if it’s closer to it, rather than waiting six months to kick it off with a hero most people aren’t familiar with.  Edgar Wright is directing the film and it has been a project of love for him for years.  He was trying to get this made before Iron Man.  Given the glorious impossibility he pulled off adapting Scott Pilgrim, I’m confident we’re going to get something really unique and cool with it.

I also still think 2015’s summer is going to bankrupt Hollywood unless people start blinking and they start blinking soon.  Don’t panic.
