My Favorite Scene: Cheers Season Five – “Thanksgiving Food Fight”

I know I probably should save this for Thanksgiving, but for some reason it was in my head today and it just makes me smile and I wanted to pass that along.  Picking a favorite scene from any season of Cheers is tough (I mean, this is the season where Diane leaves and there’s the iconic good-bye at the end of the year), but this is probably my favorite scene in the whole show.  It’s just utterly stupid and joyful and I never get tired of watching Diane take a whap of mashed potatoes to the face, and the closest we get to seeing Norm’s wife in the whole show…just a pie away.

A Quick Note on the Site

What ho, fellow time killers.  I just wanted to pop in, interrupt your peaceful weekend, and give you a little inside site maintenance news.  If you’ll recall, during the GREAT TRAFFIC DROP OF EARLY AUGUST, I compared our newly-scaled down audience of time killers to a “garage band”.  Well, now that the ALARMINGLY HUGE SPIKE IN TRAFFIC EVENT OF LATE AUGUST seems to have settled into the STRAITS OF NORMALCY (I like metaphors, all right?), we are now more of a “band that plays pretty much nothing but Bar Mitzvahs and Sweet Sixteens”.

And now the point: I write a lot.  We’re up to about 930 posts and I’ve only been doing this since late January.  I didn’t think I’d have to consider what to do on my 1000th post (ideas?), but the reality is I’ll probably hit that within 2-3 weeks.  The archives are not particularly user-friendly so if you were looking to find something you saw before or wanted to read more on something, unless you want to do the ENDLESS SCROLL DOWN OF INFINITY then, you’re in for a frustrating experience.  Behold!  I have created topic-specific archive pages (pause for fanfare).  Just check out the top of the home page and you’ll easily be able to navigate to old columns, trailers, etc.  I’m probably going to add one or two more.  If there’s a particular one you’d like to see, leave a comment and I’ll work on it.  After all, I’ve got nothing but time to kill.

More Star Wars Episode VII Casting Rumors

Latino Review, which seems to be the most plugged-in source for Star Wars Episode VII news, has a few more casting nuggets.  These are just auditions, but it gives you a little of the feel for the character types they’re looking for right now.  (Write-ups are from GeekTyrant)

They are now saying that Rachel Hurd-Wood has auditioned for the role of the daughter of Princess Leia and Han Solo. As of right now she’s the only one who has read for the part. The studio will obviously be looking at other actresses, so there’s a good chance she might not get the part, but it gives us an idea of the type of actresses they are looking for to fill this character’s shoes. Hurd-Wood played Wendy Darling in the 2003 film version of Peter Pan.

It’s also being reported that I Am Number Four and Magic Mike starAlex Pettyfer is up for a role in the film as well, but there are no details on whom he is going to play. I imagine it would be for Skywalker’s son as Ryan Goslingis not going to take on the role.

Star Wars Episode VII will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi (putting Luke and Leia at roughly 52 and Han at 62).  We’ve already gotten leaks about the return of Emperor Palpatine and Obi-Wan Kenobi (articles on each linked to names).  We’re only going to hear more in the upcoming weeks.  Production starts mid-January 2014 for a holiday 2015 release.

This is really the next movie I’m looking forward to seeing in the theaters.  October 4th seems a long time away right now….

Trailer Time: About Time (2013)

So, here it is.  I’m just putting it out there.  I love Love Actually.  Love it.  Don’t care; shut up; don’t care.  I think it’s one of the most weirdly hysterical heartfelt movies out there.  I qualify that because now I’m going to show you a trailer for a Rachel McAdams movie and I actually want you to watch it and not think I’ve been sipping peyote all morning.  This is the same creative team behind Love Actually and it’s about a father (played by Bill Nighy who slays me) trying to explain to his son how the men in their family, once they reach a certain age, can travel through time.  It has the potential to be hilarious; it also has the potential to be heartbreaking.  If it’s half the movie Love Actually is, I shall be there….after I see Thor because it comes out the same day: November 8th.
