Robin Williams: Inside the Actor’s Studio

One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen Robin Williams do was his 2-hour interview with James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio.  He was funny as always and honest about some of his struggles.  If you can find the full interview, I highly recommend it, but I’ve pulled some “best of” montages off of You Tube including the “scarf incident” that is one of the best bits of improvisation I’ve ever seen.

  1. I used to be addicted to this show, and this was the best episode ever.

You should do a career best column. A look back on his brightest moments. Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, Good Will Hunting, Dead Again, Aladdin, Awakenings, The Birdcage, What Dreams May Come, The Adventures of Baron Muncheusen, and the sadly obscure Shakes the Clown all go on my list.

  2. I watched the Inside the Actors Studio episode tonight. It was great to see and hear him (despite that woman’s awful laughter; fortunately, it didn’t bother him and he seemed to get a kick out of it).

I had no idea he had done so many movies until I saw a list today. I can’t count the number of times I’ve watched Good Morning Viet Nam, and I am still amazed at his performance in both One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

His improvisations are marvelous, and it is also nice to hear him talk. I liked when a student asked what is the one role/movie you want people to remember 100 years from now and he said he hadn’t found it yet; he was still learning.

    He will be missed.

    1. OMG, I wanted to slap that woman that was laughing so hard that she was taking away from who I was really watching. It made me think that she was doing that on purpose so that she could hear herself later on the recorded video. And unfortunately they gave her air time when they showed her. Ugh!

      1. But without her we would have never had the world’s greatest pashmina show, which I think was Robin’s kind way of shutting her down while making everyone laugh together. That was his kind genius at work. Thanks for the comment!
