Emily Blunt’s 10 Best Movies

Emily Blunt, Sunshine Cleaning

I think Emily Blunt is the most versatile actress in Hollywood.  There is literally nothing she cannot do and do well.  Drama, comedy, period pieces, she’s the best female action star since Sigourney Weaver, and on top of all of it she can sing and dance.  I have never seen Blunt turn in a bad performance, even if the movie she was in didn’t entirely click.  That skill set is going to allow her to break through that idiotic wall that exists for actresses between 40-60.  Even the best actresses usually have an area of weakness. For example, as superb as she is, no one is going to buy Meryl Streep in an action film.  I use Streep as an example, because it was Blunt’s role as her acerbic assistant in The Devil Wears Prada that first got her wide notice, and you CAN stick Blunt in action/science fiction films like Sicario, Looper, and the underrated Edge of Tomorrow and she will blow you away in either setting.  Turning only 34 this week, Blunt has a long career ahead of her making what I can only imagine will be one of the most diverse filmographies in movie history.

Top 5: Movies Released in September

Top 5

I don’t want to overstate this here or degenerate into Hyperbole Land (the nation’s sixth funnest amusement park), but September is a blasted wasteland of movie offal.  September is a dumping ground.  If your movie is being released in September, the studio A) knows it is a turd so large as to be seen from space and wish to bury it or B) the studio has no idea whatsoever what to make of your film and how to market it and because studios dislike thinking, your possibly original film is now opening against Hotel Transylvania.   Continue reading Top 5: Movies Released in September

RIAN JOHNSON SIGNED TO WRITE AND DIRECT STAR WARS EPISODES VIII AND IX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rian Johnson

In an amazingly good development for Star Wars fans, Looper director Rian Johnson has been signed to write and direct BOTH Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX.  In addition to writing and directing Looper, Johnson has made the fantastic Brothers Bloom, Brick and wrote and directed several of the best episodes of Breaking Bad (including last season’s “Ozymandias”).  This has yet to be confirmed by Lucasfilm and we’ll do a full analysis when it is, but I think this is a SPECTACULAR choice.  Johnson is one of my favorite directors period.  He’s also one of my favorite writers period.  To have him taking the helm from JJ Abrams and finishing this sequel trilogy (well, first sequel trilogy, let’s be real) is as good a choice as I could imagine.  Star Wars Episode VIII is scheduled for release in 2017 and Episode IX in 2019.

Fan Made Poster Art for Tron Legacy, Indy, District 9, The Prestige and More

These fantastic movie posters was created by artist Tony Enriquez. The posters include Tron: Legacy, Looper, Indiana Jones, The Prestige, District 9, 3:10 to Yuma, and Wreck it Ralph,   Movie posters can be such cool art and, in this case, most of these are better than the ones the studio used.
