Trailer Time: Unbroken Trailer #1 (2014)

Universal Pictures has released the trailer for director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. The December 25 release is an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

Starring alongside O’Connell are Domhnall Gleeson and Finn Wittrock as Phil and Macthe airmen with whom Zamperini endured perilous weeks adrift in the open PacificGarrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”

Zamperini passed away at the age of 97 last week.

Trailer TIme: 300 Rise of an Empire Trailer #3

I just don’t know.  We’re now a little over a month from the release of 300: Rise of an Empire after the film was delayed from last August (not really a good indicator).  I go back and forth on this.  Maybe it could be dumb fun.  Maybe it could recapture a little bit of the ridiculous over-the-top testosterone fest that made the first movie such a blast.  Then I watch footage from it and I really don’t see how.  I want to be wrong.  But then I’m so goshdarn smart…  If the timeline seems confusing in comparison to the first film, it’s because this isn’t a true sequel.  The events of this film will take place before, during AND after 300.  It was originally supposed to be called Xerxes so I presume from that and the trailers that this film is going to take his point of view for a good hunk of the film.  I think we were all clamoring to learn how he turned into super creepy androgynous emperor of doom.  At any rate 300: Rise of an Empire will settle the debate when it opens March 7, 2014.

Comic Con Poster for 300: Rise of an Empire

300 Rise of an Empire, Comic Con

Next week is Comic Con in San Diego, which has transformed over the years from an actual comic book convention, into probably the single biggest media geek orgy of the year.  We’ll probably have a lot of announcements and cool things like this new poster for the 300 sequel.  Stay tuned.  Official plot summary below for 300: Rise of an Empire.
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel “Xerxes” and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster 300, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. 300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemesia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Trailer Time: 300 Rise of an Empire (2014) and New Poster

We get our first look at footage today from 300: Rise of an Empire, which was recently pushed back from August to March 2014.  Accompanying it is a new poster which makes two for a movie that is now 10 months away.  Let the tally begin!  It certainly looks cool, but there’s a limit to how much creepy Xerxes I can take so hopefully the new cast can pick up for the loss of Gerard Butler’s Spartans.  I loved 300.  I hope this will live up; the delay though is never a good sign.  Official plot summary below:
