Killing Time – July 10, 2014

killing time

The Future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.
~C.S. Lewis

I’ve always loved that quote from Lewis.  Everyone thinks of THE FUTURE as some mystical promised land, but it really isn’t.  Time marches on at the same pace for rich and poor; young and old, though our perception of it varies with Einsteinian intensity.  There are moments so vivid, so clear that they seem almost too real.  They sear into our memory and tower over the mundane days where life feels almost like you’re viewing it through a dirty window. Killing Time – May 8, 2014

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”
~ Albert Einstein

Since I have a special statement in the stats this week, let’s forego most of the rambling about how the week in entertainment has been.  I have spent the vast majority of it steam cleaning my brain of any trace of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Which never happened.  So clearly there’s nothing to talk about there, over that mythical abomination. Killing Time – April 10, 2014

“Lost time is never found again.”
― Benjamin Franklin

I’ve been thinking about the site a lot this week (not only because maintaining it eats my free time like tasty snacks) and how different it is than what I had originally envisioned it being.  As it stands now, KT is a news site, more or less.  I’m doing journalism for the most part with some critical analysis thrown in for good measure.  And that’s all well and good.  I like being the guy who gets to tell you the cool thing I just heard.  Shorter pieces fit my schedule better.  I’m able to deliver 3-5 a day usually and this has varying degrees of success with the readers. Killing Time – April 3, 2014

killing time

“Modern man thinks he loses something – time – when he does not do things quickly. Yet he does not know what to do with the time he gains, except kill it.”
― Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving

We stand poised for two of potentially the greatest geek months in history.  Captain America The Winter Soldier releases wide tomorrow and is at 91% at Rotten Tomatoes at the time of publication.  Sunday, the greatest fantasy show in television history returns – Game of Thrones – for its fourth season.  Tuesday, gamers get the next LEGO fix with LEGO The Hobbit.  On April 16th, Chris Nolan’s cinematographer Wally Pfister makes his directorial debut with the exceedingly cool-looking Transcendence and then May is one of the most packed months in movie history: Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla, X-Men Days of Future Past and Maleficent.  I’m going to be a very busy nerd.

Killing Time milestones this week: The site passed 66,000 hits this week, 1650 posts, and 20 followers just by Tumblr!  The geography stays Greenland-free, which I’m beginning to suspect is the result of a French Guianan smear campaign….however, that may be massively paranoid.

The most viewed post of the week was my review of Noah by almost 2 to 1.

“A friend to kill time is a friend sublime.”
Haruki Murakami, A Wild Sheep Chase

I have epic reading in store, my friends.  I have devised not one, not two, not three, it goes on and on like that until we get to SIX epic reading-a-thons.  Had I the time I wanted, I could do each in a few weeks.  Since reality is all like, “hey, pay your rent” and nonsense like that, each might take me up to a year.  Intrigued?  OF COURSE YOU ARE INTRIGUED!!!
