Movie Review: Manchester by the Sea (2016) *Somebody Please Drown Me*

Most films I go see in the theater, I go because I have some interest in them.  Around this time of year, I try to go to see most of the award front runners primarily because of this blog (get ready to shoulder some blame), and that’s why I found myself sitting through 147 of the pointless, rambling misery that is Manchester by the Sea rather than standing in the sold out line for Rogue One for the third time.  I don’t want to mince words, because I honestly cannot spend more than a few minutes more dwelling on this pointless wreck.  Manchester is boring, uncomfortable, awkward, unsympathetic, weirdly directed, poorly scored, and all-around the worst film I paid to see in a theater in the last three years. Trailer Time : 24 Live Another Day (2014)

Jack is back on May 5th and this latest trailer and the official synopsis below grant a little more insight into why Bauer is being brought back for half of another of the worst days of his life.  For that matter, why are we calling it 24 when it’s really 12 this time?

If you’re not caught up on 24, all eight seasons are available for streaming on Netflix and that is a whole lot of Jack.  The best season was always and will always be the first, when the concept was novel and before we took a lot of time to notice no one ever went to the bathroom or ate.  The show did a great job at constantly re-inventing itself and changing the status quo to keep viewers invested.  Often seasons collapsed under the weight of having to do 24 episodes worth of plot twists and some just got nuts.  Season two with Kim, the cougar and crazy mountain hermit is still my benchmark for bad subplot in a good show.
