The Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending Has Been Pushed to 2015

Mila Kunis, Jupiter Ascending
Wow.  I’m really stunned.  This leaves Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as really the only blockbuster in all of July.  Way to schedule, people.  Not a good sign at all for the success of the film, either.  Check out the full report from Coming Soon.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow have delayed Andy and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending by seven months. Originally slated to hit the big screen on July 18, the sci-fi actioner will now see release on February 6, 2015.

Starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D’Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith, the film follows Jupiter Jones (Kunis), a young woman born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

The new release date has Jupiter Ascending going up against Legendary and Universal’s fantasy actioner Seventh Son and David Koepp’s action comedy Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp. Also scheduled for release on that date is Run All Night, director Jaume Collet-Serra’s third big screen teaming with Liam Neeson. Given that that project is also a Warner Bros. release, it’s quite likely to receive an alternate release date in the very near future.

Trailer TIme: Jupiter Ascending International Trailer #2 (2014)

I have to say….I have no idea what to say about this film.  Disaster or genius; that seems to be the Wachowski Way.  We’ll find out July 18th.
