Renaissance News Vol. 2 Issue 20

As the oppressive desert summer causes the staff here to melt (melting apparently severely damages RN productivity), we brave the heat to bring you the newest arcane news…

  • Our weekly Hobbit update, has Peter Jackson meeting with actors, though he’s not been officially confirmed as the new director this would certainly indicate he’s planning on assuming the role.
  • Wondering what the Wachowski Bros. have been up to? They’re making an Iraqi war drama called CN9.
  • Robocop is coming for Dexter! Peter Weller will appear in eight episodes of Dexter‘s upcoming fifth season.
  • Brian Cox has joined Rise of the Apes, the Planet of the Apes prequel.
  • The Hulk will be in The Avengers movie, but Edward Norton will not be playing him again. Despite Norton’s wanting to return to the role, Marvel will be recasting it for the upcoming movie. Norton had clashed with Marvel over the theatrical cut of The Incredible Hulk and it seems like these differences have festered into outright hostility if the press releases from both camps are to be believed. I think Norton was right and if you watch the deleted scenes on the Hulk DVD, the movie would have been amazing with their inclusion. At any rate, we’ll have a new Hulk soon.
  • Batman 3 will begin shooting in April 2011, according to Sir Michael Caine.
  • Universal is developing a movie version of Wicked.
  • More X-Men: First Class casting news. Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds) is Magneto, Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy) is Beast, and Caleb Landry Jones is Banshee.
  • The Academy Awards have increased the number of nominees for Best Special Effects from 3 to 5.
