9 New Stills from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Warner Brothers has released nine new stills from the nearly-upon-us The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.  Reviews have started to come in, and it looks like they’ll be at Desolation level, not Unexpected Journey.  Rotten Tomatoes has it currently at 79%.  I’ve been working through the extended edition to Desolation of Smaug and I swear I’ll get that review up here before The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters on December 17, 2014.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition Release Date, Details and a Deleted Scene

This is just one of the scenes that will be added back into Peter Jackson’s middle chapter in The Hobbit Trilogy: The Desolation of Smaug.  I’ve said since I left the theater that I wanted to see this cut because, in particular, Gandalf’s storyline and Dol Guldur have scenes,  pivotal scenes, that I know were cut.  Twenty-five minutes are being added back into the film this time.  Nobody does special features like Jackson and company too so we’re in for another treat when this hits stores on November 4th.  More details below Continue reading The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition Release Date, Details and a Deleted Scene

Smaug-tastic Poster for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Footage from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will be shown at Comic Con 2014 (which begins tonight) so hopefully they will CUT US A FREAKING TRAILER soon, but I am temporarily satisfied to gaze in wonder at this.  The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies opens December 17, 2014.

The Hobbit the Desolation of Smaug

The middle chapter of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy will come to home video on April 8th in a variety of packets, the deluxe version featuring Erebor bookends as depicted above.  While there are some decent extras featured on the disc, by now, Middle-earth fans know darn well, that spring release is a cash grab.  It’s for if you can’t wait.  That’s all.  We all know perfectly well that in November we’ll get the extended edition of the film (particularly critical in this case) and the MOUNTAIN of extras that come with the best made blu ray releases.  If you can’t wait, the details are after the break….but there’s a better version coming.

Movie Review: The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug (2013) *MASSIVE SPOILERS*

The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug, Martin Freeman, Bilbo Baggins

It’s 3:30 a.m. where I live and I just returned from seeing The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug for the second time today, so I feel I’ve properly digested it enough to write a coherent (well, coherent for this hour) review of the middle film in The Hobbit Trilogy.  First, I want to emphasize the warning in the title: SPOILERS.  I’m not going to bother to mince anything, so if you haven’t seen the film, I’ll put the break here and if you continue on you do so into Spoilertown.
