Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant

With the Oscar nominees due to be announced in just three days, if you were looking to The Golden Globes to help you get an idea of what to expect…..well, good luck.  First of all, Star Wars: The Force Awakened was ineligible for the Globes because Disney held it back from screeners to prevent leaks.  Secondly, the Globe nominees this year seemed extremely random even by Globe standards.  If you want to read anything into the results, it looks like Best Picture is The Revenant‘s to lose, Best Actor is Leonardo DiCaprio vs. Matt Damon, Best Actress is wide open but Brie Larson’s win gives her probably the lead and Inside Out is a lock for Animated Film.  On the TV side, Mr. Robot and Mad Men dominated things.  The most egregious win, in my book, was Sam Smith’s win for best song for his grating title song from Spectre when the only good song to come from a movie this year was Furious 7‘s “See You Again”.  Oh, and despite the fact that he does this every year and will continue to as long as they bring him back, Ricky Gervais offended everyone.  Full list of nominees and winners below! Obi-Wan Remembers the Truth (AMAZING FAN VIDEO)

Shahan Reviews cut together this amazing piece of Star Wars video art, and it really goes to show what an amazing fan community the saga has.  One of the best things about Episode VII is that it seems to have reunited and re-energized Star Wars fans and their creativity is showing.  Essentially they deftly weave Obi-Wan’s explanation to Luke of what happened to his father from Episode IV (which was an extremely dicey version of the truth) with the real events from Episode III  in a very powerful way.  The duel at the end of Episode III is the pivot point on which the entire Star Wars Universe moved and to see it woven together from the perspective of truth and “truth from a certain point of view” is really spectacular.
