We have our first official casting announcement for Star Wars Episode VII and it is a shocker! Variety is reporting that Adam Driver (HBO’s Girls) will play the main villain in Episode VII. Variety says the role that Driver will be playing, “is said to be in the vein of iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader.” This is the same role that it is said that both Hugo Weaving and Michael Fassbender had auditioned for, so you may cross them off your dream list. So what does this actually mean? Continue reading Adam Driver Cast as Main Villain in Star Wars Episode VII!!!
In case you’re counting (and I know you are) it’s now 45 days until the debut of season 4 of Game of Thrones on HBO. Having binged season three in two days, I’m struck by how little of book three actually got covered. It really only covered perhaps half, while oddly drawing in elements of books four and five into season three. The TV show should obviously be its own beast and there have already been several MAJOR diversions from the books for the good mostly, but it leaves me wondering if they’re taking their time with these seasons to give Martin time to get books six and seven out. Out of all the seasons, three was definitely the most deliberately paced. I won’t complain if they do eight or nine seasons and more fully explore this world. It’s hard to imagine ever getting a fantasy TV show like this again unless someone made the same kind of commitment to The Silmarillion (if they had the rights), Dune, Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time (cutting the fat), The Dark Tower (making it coherent) or David Eddings’ criminally underrated The Belgariad and Mallorean. Brandon Sanderson’s phenomenal Mistborn saga just had its rights lapse so someone could pick up an amazing property there. Pre-production on Star Wars Episode VII continues as we near the start of shooting and what should be a slew of casting announcements sometime in the near future. The following piece is from Geek Tyrant by way of Market Saw, both reliable sources. It says a few troubling things about the state of the script, but the way they’re phrased make me wonder if they’re dated. They confirm the return of all the major players including Ian McDiarmid (but not Ewan McGregor). Does this mean no Ghosti-Wan? Is the Emperor’s hidden apprentice still the villain as he was in Arndt’s draft? Also interesting is that Gary Oldman is in the mix and he and Cumberbatch are either both in or both vying for the same role. It’s rumors and I normally don’t print just rumors, but we’re starving here, JJ, so until you give me some meat, we’re going to eat Fritos here in fandom. Check out the whole article after the break.
